Shores, a Night Dive

Headed out to the shores and came across this nudi tonight – another OMG moment when suddenly something new appeared on the slope of the canyon.

I came across this Cerberilla pungoarena at the shores.

Under the dive light it had a blue hue. On my way back, I thought it was some variations of a Stearn’s Aeolid, but the rhinophores are different. Turned out it was a Cerberilla pungoarena.

La Jolla Shores
Time: night
Temp: a bit chilly – forgot to look
Viz: clear, as far as lights

Met up with Weiwei, with Tiffany P. and Stef F. also gearing up. Kicking out on flattish seas I could see the bottom (with light), near the canyon edge. Lotsa cold clear water down there.
Some up and down pulsing north of VP with a strong, temporary down welling heading back into the shallows.
Highlight critters were the 1 Pleurobranch foraging like mad, several Heart Urchins who can’t bury themselves fast enough at the sight of light, and the clump of Squid Eggs swaying in the breeze. Hardly any fish were out or even seen sleeping. In the shallows the usual critters. A great dive.
