Anilao Diving – the Last Day of the Trip

Today is my last day of this trip at Anilao. Carlo was hoping to bring me to Mainit Point, but the current is just too strong to dive there. He then decided to go to a site with sea horses. Even at this site, we experienced super strong current. Despite the less-than-perfect condition, I still see a few cool critters. One of the cool encounters is this soft coral porcelain crab that Carlo found.

With the strong current, I didn’t move too much. But even in a small area there was a lot to see. I spotted a coral shrimp.

Carlo went out to look for the sea horse and after a little whhile he indeed found it. Given how many sea horses appeared recently in California, I was not super excited about sea horses. But it was cool to see that this looked actually similar to what we had at home but with a much dark tone.

Next to the sea horse, under the coral I spotted another shrimp. It looked like the same species as the one earlier.

In our second dive, Carlo decided to go back to Sand View for pygmy sea horses. After last dive at Sand View, I was not fully satisfied with the sea horse shots. We had too many people there. The gorgonian retreated and the signature red color disappeared. I was not satisfied with the angle of the sea horses either. So it was a perfect arrangement to go back to see the little creature.

They are still very difficult to find. But finally Carlo found one.

Carlo helped me with pictures. I was so excited and told Carlo that I was going to stay. He went away to find other critters.

I was not sure how much time I spent. But after the sea horse, I hanged around the area and saw this pair of cool cow fish.

Then I saw Carlo. He signaled me to come close and I saw the nudibranchs he found. They were so small – with a size of a rice grain.

We finished early and had time for another dive. It’s been so many dives and there is no doubt I fell in love with Anilao. So I decided to call it off and leave the adventure to the future trips. It’s been a great dive.
