La Jolla Shores Night Dive

The condition at the shore deteriorated a lot. The surf was fast but with little power. All the way from the shallow to the canyon the visibility was poor ~5 ft, but no surge at the canyon. Despite the subpar condition, the diving was amazing. I came across a dolphin on the surface only 5 ft away, dove down immediately but saw nothing – that’s when I realized how bad the viz was. Tuna crab still remained strong, especially some pretty thick patches here and there at the canyon. When it couldn’t get more crabby, there came a box crab – a cool critter.

Practiced more with wide angle close-ups.

While I was taking pictures, a huge yellow crab came into my view finder, and then went straight down into the canyon.

I had never seen a swimming baby horn shark.

Given the condition, this was a pretty neat dive and I am glad I went.
