A Dive to the Boomer

Recent dive reports from a few warrior divers showed constant sightings of California blue dorid (Felimare californiensis) at the boom. This is the nudibranch that I have been searching for years. It’s not uncommon but somehow has remained elusive to me. Although in my perspective, the boomer (outside of the La Jolla Cove) is not an attractive dive site, I decided to go and check out the nudibranch.

It was a hot day and I got to the cove around 1 pm. It was a nightmare: the parking, the crowd on the beach, the scorching sun, the hefty stairs with my inflamed ankle. It took a lot of patience and faith. It felt good after I got into the water and kicked out from the crowd of beach goers.

With information provided by Mike, I had no problem to find the nudi on a small wall. It was a very exciting moment when all the hard work was paid off.

The wall is relatively small. The water is very surgy. Not much else is going on. Another interesting sighting is a Limacia mcdonaldi, which I have not seen for a while.
