Headed out to Point Loma with Steve and had two great dives. The highlight of this trip was this grey colored nudibranch in our second dive.

I first saw two big nobilis on a rock and one was laying eggs. While I was taking pictures of the nobilis pair, I looked the rock behind and noticed the grey nudi. It had a pair rhinophores so I was sure it was a nudibranch. But the grey color was uncommon. It took quite some time to find the ID of this nudibranch. Based on all the information gathered, most likely it was a Phyllidiopsis blanca. Here is a nice article about this species. Notice that the nudi actually feeds on sponges of grey color so that may explain the color.
Another highlight of the dive was this yellowfin fringehead.

It came all the way out of its crevice so I could have a good look at it.
I also got a good shot of a Polycera tricolor.

Another highlight was a Limacia mcdonaldi. Glad to see one at Point Loma.

A great dive.
Here I copied Steve’s report.
Weiwei G and Shane C joined me for a couple dives off Point Loma today .
We decided to head to Christmas reef (2 days in a row for me) for a little shallower air breathers depth π
Surface conditions on the way out were 1-4 ft swells (4 ft was occasional) , sunny, and light winds
On the way back, we ran into some southbound wind chop making a little bumpy ride back.
Dive conditions were 5-20 ft on dive #1 , depending on where you were.
There was warm water (54ΒΊ) with hazy 5-10 ft vis on the top of the reef and 20 ft vis below that in the cold water.
The layers of warm/cold were visible with shimmers in the warm and a noticeable drop in temperature below that.
It was COOL !!
Vis got better on dive #2 , 25-30 , at least below the thermocline at 65 ft .
We had some currents during the day, but not to bad as long as you made it back to the anchor π
I went back to look for a nesting male fish and found him on his favorite ledge guarding eggs.
It was a Great day with cool people .
Steve M
