This was the make-up trip for the one that was canceled two weeks ago. So within a month this was the 3rd time I drove up to LA and boarded Pacific Star. As we swam out, the wreck was nowhere in our sight. So we followed another pair of divers and continued to swim out. But soon we realized the divers we followed were also unable to find the boat. They slowed down and started to follow us. Soon, we caught up with another group of six but they didn’t seem to know where the wreck was. As I almost gave up, we spotted a thick metal chain. It had to be part of the wreck. By following the chain, we finally found the wreck. The poor visibility and the strong current made it difficult to take pictures. We called off the dive shortly.

Then the boat headed to the oil rig. It was very windy and the sea was choppy. I jumped into the water and immediately dropped down. The visibility was okay but the current was pretty strong. As it was critical to stay inside the rig structure, I had to constantly fight for the current. So I didn’t get chance to take a lot of pictures. The challenging part was to get back on to the boat. The current became more difficult to stand near the surface as the surf pulled me up and down. For a few minutes, we had to hide ourselves under the rig as the service boat approached. We stayed quite a long time underneath the rig before we could swim out safely to the boat.
