A Night Dive at the Canyon

The condition at the shores was great. Headed out for a night dive. The past weekend a squid-run happened in the north so I was hoping to see some squids tonight. I saw one in the shallow but it shied away from my light. Then at the end of the dive back to the shallow I came across another one. This one was still pretty shy. After a quick shot, it fled in a blink of the eye.

Another highlight of the dive was a few different flatworms. I liked this yellow one feeding on some algae.

Another interesting encounter happened while I was photographing this San Diego dorid.

Suddenly a young sheep crab came, grabbed the nudibranch, and started to eat it. Nudibranchs have defense mechanisms to fend away the predators. But this time the defense didn’t seem to work. The crab just kept on eating the poor thing.

Other encounters are not uncommon. It was a great dive.
