La Jolla Shores Night Dive

Gorgeous conditions at the shores!

Arrived at the shores a bit earlier than my normal schedule and found a ‘stupid flat’ condition. I was prepared for yucky conditions at the canyon but was surprised to find out that clear water had replaced the milky one of yesterday. With a clear emerald background, the canyon looked absolutely gorgeous. On top of the good visibility, the water was warm at 52 F. It was so beautiful that I decided to make a left turn for the south wall.

Despite the full occupancy of tuna crabs, sea hares were gathering in clusters, pushing through and marching toward the wall. Deep south wall used to be a yellow/brown crab city, but I didn’t see many of them. A big scorpion fish on the wall made a good subject for filming. It was fun.

The shallow was as nice as the canyon: clear water with no surge. Came across a huge guitarfish but it was gone before I could get my camera ready.

A great dive.
