On the patch the critters I saw were not uncommon: pipe fish, sarcastic fringehead, and lots of octopuses. I headed south and shortly after arrived at the wall. The thermocline was at the bottom of the first ledge but it remained clear even in the warm water (69F) at the top layer. The highlight was stingray hunting on the slope. Other critters were also not uncommon: a playful bay blenny, lobsters, sea hares, sand sea bass, and large horn sharks at the point.
When I arrived at the V point, a north bound current picked up and a murky layer came in. Somewhere around the canyon, the tube worms were still spawning. The visibility dropped a bit and but overall it remained very pleasant.
From the V point, I headed back to the shore. There were some grunions following me toward the beach, but their number had dropped.
