“The Magic Shores’, a film I made about diving at La Jolla Shores was selected for 2019’s San Diego Undersea Film Festival. This is my first submission ever to a film festival. I was super excited.
La Jolla Shores is a special place that intrigued me and changed the course of my life. I am so happy to finally share the story on a big screen.
Here is a shout out to those who helped my diving, photography, and film:
- Nick and Cheryl: I would not have the courage to submit this film to SDUFEX without your encouragement. Nick sacrificed his time and has been giving me critics since day 1.
- SDUFEX and the fellow board members Eric, Karen, Elke, Rocio, Mike, Pete, Chuck, Bill, Roger: thanks for giving me the opportunity.
- Janet: When I needed a ‘dive buddy’ for the film, Janet sacrificed her time to help.
- Joon: thanks for the voice over. Although I eventually used my own, I am thankful for your effort.
- Ed: thank you for teaching me scuba diving. Missing you guys every dive!
- Michele and Howard: who gave me so much inspiration when I sat in Boston Sea Rover’s film festival on a Saturday night in 2005.
- Kathy Bouic: brought me to La Jolla Shores for my first dive on a hot Memorial Day afternoon – I was almost drowned by the big waves, but Kathy patiently dragged me out of water – twice.
- Mike: from whom I learned to look for critters in the water.
- Juan: now I am a dry suit repair semi-professional.
- Power Scuba and Bill Powers : where I met so many friends and made so many dives. If you are a newbie and can’t live without diving, this is the place to go.
- David: introduced me the best camera (in my opinion) to shoot at the shores.
- Other friends: divers or not, thanks for shared experiences and a passion to nature, ocean, and adventure.
- My parents: who have been forced to watch the films I shoot.
- Many who I may forget. If so, remind me and forgive me.
The film was ranked #1 by audience among all submissions. Thank you for your support. Sorry I wrote a speech as if I am winning an Oscar. I am super excited but at the same time I am nervous because the next film will be more difficult.
