Morning Dive at the Shores

While Kai and Rob were visiting, I sneaked out in the early morning and made a dive at the shores. Wow – what a beautiful dive! The sea remained super flat and the surge minimum. It was a surprise to see the wolf eel ‘Ernie’ sticking out of the hole and greeting the morning guest. During the night dives, I saw him all the time but he always retreated to the very deep of the hole.

Early morning is also a great time to see yellow dorids – I saw lots of them.

Another fun sighting was a juvenile sea hare. He was really cute.

Near the Vallecitos Point, I spotted a few kelp crabs. The very mild surge allowed me to take a few shots of these guys.

I was totally absorbed into the dive until I realized that my air was low. On the sandy bottom I saw a few beautiful nudibranchs but didn’t have time to take pictures. The big swell was coming next week. So it’s probably going to be while since the next dive.
