Headed out with Steve, Gayle, and Jim to Point Loma. The swell has slowly moved in and the condition was a bit rough, but we got to the site without any problem. The visibility was decent and the surge was minimum.

Right after we dropped in, I spotted a cabzon on the wall. But Gayle had free flow and decided to headed back to the boat. I ascended with her to the half way and returned. The fish was still there. Later, Steve also spotted the same fish and pointed to me. It was interesting that I found another cabzon further north on the wall – it was the biggest cabzon that I had ever seen. It looked like a small shark and very vigilant. After I took a few pictures it went away.

So the most pictures are from the smaller one.

As usual, the reefs at Point Loma were loaded with nudibranchs and painted with exuberant colors. We spent the two dives basically at the same site but different walls.

Toward the end of the dive, near the anchor, Steve flashed me and guided me to the front of this beautiful skate.

The back of the skate had a symmetric and beautiful pattern. Later one, we found its name (thanks to Peter) was Raja Binoculata, which vividly depicted its unique patterns. Here are a few pictures.

We were expecting a rough ride back home but it turned out not too bad. It was another fun trip to Point Loma. Here is Steve’s report.

Gayle , Jim R, Weiwei and I headed out to Gayles spot today for a couple decent dives.

Surface conditions were great on the way out, but by the 2nd dive, there were whitecaps, and the ride home was bumpy and wet.

There was a little current, but not bad and it was cold ! My watch said 48º for the first time all year .

We found a good sized Cabezon who was happy letting us take pic’s and pose with him, and then a small lincod also needed his pic taken too.

And lots of nudibranc’s including a Hopkins rose.

At the end of dive #2 we found a Skate.

I haven’t seen one of those in a long time.

I looked in Milt Love’s book, but don’t see one like it.
