The Scripps Canyon Dive

I joined Power Scuba to dive the Scripps Canyon today. It was a beautiful day at the canyon. The dive conditions couldn’t be better: minimum to no waves, no surge, and over 30 ft visibility. We encountered a northern current in the second dive during our kick out. But it was not a too big issue.

With such beautiful visibility, I got a chance to look at the overview of the canyon. It’s different from the La Jolla Canyon, where you can find a big sandy slope. Here at the Scripps, the wall is stark and vertical. In addition, the two canyon walls are so close that you can see both of them or swim freely from one side to another. I zig-zagged a few times. Wide-angle is not the strength of my camera but the pictures still show how magnificent the canyon is.

Looking from far, the canyon is stark and lifeless. However, looking close at the canyon wall, it was full of color and life. With just a bit of attention, I found tons of swell sharks hiding inside the crevices.

Of course the canyon is a nudibranch city. They are every well. Most of the species here I don’t really find them at the shores, such as this pair of Limbaugh’s Cadlina (Cadlina limbaughorum).

But even the dorids, such as this pair of spotted yellow dorid, looked really cute.

Again, a wonderful trip to the Scripps Canyon.
