Black Dorid, Finally!

Beautiful conditions at the shores – no surf, no surge, and stunning visibility. It is one of those days that I wish the conditions stay like this forever. The only downside was the cold – 49F below 50 ft.

For weeks, if not months, I have been looking for black dorids (Polycera atra). Tonight, two minutes after I dropped down at the main wall, Bingo! Here it was, hidden behind algae.

I spent the whole dive with this little guy until my finger was too numb to push the shutter.

Back to the shallow, I spotted two glowing eyeballs beneath the sand. I didn’t know what it was until it jumped out from the sand – a butterfly ray. This was the second time I saw it at the shores and only this time it allowed me to follow some distance.
