The condition has been really challenging recently, but I can’t wait any longer for getting wet. Headed out to the shores. I just copied the report from Jackie below. Check out some pictures.

Headed out with Weiwei tonight to for a nice long 87 minute dive in 3’ – 8’ awful and horrid viz…and it was quite good somehow. It kinda was..
We ended up dropping way south due to surface current and ended our dive at Crap Patch.
Initially I thought of calling the dive, but then, it can’t always be great viz, and this was a good refresher in nav, and creepy diving. It felt warm enough, with not much surge.
Usual suspects out, including the yellow case that is not to be disturbed, and a Santa hat in the Crap Patch. No Santa attached. Also, Banded Guitarfish, large Octos in lairs, Ocean Whitefish, Scorpionfish, Pipefish, ect…
A large Sea Lion buzzed about as close as it could get – taking advantage of our strained visual abilities.
The absolute highlight was the Mantis Shrimp, the piercing variety. This time I was able to film it as it dug a hole, spit out sand, and dug like a dog in dirt. It was quite remarkable to watch. Then some krill showed up which attracted the Kamikaze fish, which either bounced off of me, or the sand. The Mantis would take cover, then continue to dig. Just awesome. Something would tug on my fins, I assumed it was the Sea Lion and remained calm.
Back in the shallows, the viz was probably more like 2’, with some surge. It was nice though to exit to a clear black sky, with all the stars shining. A great dive. Vid of Mantis tomorrow.
