Another beautiful trip on board Marissa to Ruby E and Point Loma Reefs.
Ruby E is a quite interesting wreck. The ship was built in early 1930s and the name was changed many times – a testimony of her complicated history. The sinking of Ruby E was dramatic – an epic event created by hidden compartments for drug smuggling. I dove Ruby E once before in 2008, however on that dive the condition was horrible – the waves were big and the visibility was terrible. So I don’t really remember much about Ruby E. Today the condition was beautiful. The wreck was fully covered by colorful sea anemones. Although people say the wreck is the wonderland of nudibranchs – I didn’t discover anything new to me. The wreck was also relatively small and it is easy to get a view of the overall structure.

The second dive we went to a location called Green Tables. The name was chosen because of the sheet-like rocks piled together with large open flat surfaces. The structure creates many crevices full of creatures. They are also perfect for wide-angle closeups. For the whole dive, we basically stayed at one stable and I found the photo opportunities are endless. During the surface interval, we saw dolphins swimming by. During the dive, even though I kept on looking up and checking upon waters above, I didn’t see many large animals.
I can feel the water was very cold but this time the suit kept me completely dry. It is a very nice dive!
