A Dive to the South Wall

The condition at the shores is beautiful tonight and I decide to go south. It’s been a long time since I visited the south wall last time. Particularly, I want to check out the pipe. Kicking out is effortless, I drop down to the sandy bottom right in front of the canyon wall. The bottom of the ocean is peaceful. In front of my eyes, this little octopus is trying to tuck behind the sand dollar.

After a few kicks, I get to the wall. One thing I noticed on the wall was this spider-like thing inside tiny round holes. I never saw them whole but some hairy legs, just like those of big spiders. They are super shy – once the light was on them, they retreated deep into the hole. But this time I was lucky to get a picture of one before this guy disappeared. The focus is still a bit off but good enough to see the little crab.

Along the canyon, I also saw a few horn sharks. Interestingly, I haven’t see them for a little while. They must follow some magic life cycles and now they emerged again.

There were a few of them along the way.

After a little while, I arrived at the pipe, and turned away the other side. I immediately saw a Janolus crawling on a kelp fond. Again, I haven’t seen them for a while. Fascinating creatures.

Then I started to look for Doto amyra. They are tiny, tucked among the grass. Taking pictures of these little guys demands a lot of patience.

I took a lot of pictures and a few came out just fine.

The pipe is a magic thing at the shores. It’s a tiny area but full of amazing creatures. All you need is a close observation.

The closer you see, the more you discover. I love this place.

From the pipe, I turned east and headed back to the shores. The sand dollar field near the south wall is a wonderland at night. All kinds of creatures are hanging out. So much fun!

At about 20 ft water, I noticed this strange looking fish with big pelvic wing-like fins. It is a sea Robin. They are super common when I dove in New England but never saw one here at the shores.

I followed the fish for a while. It was a great found!

What a great dive!!!
