Morning Dive at the Shores

Headed to the shores again for a morning dive. I saw the egg sack of the squid. Here is what I wrote for the squid.

For roughly every 9 months, the market squids will come back to the shores to mate and lay their eggs, but no one is sure about the precise time and location. I have never seen the epic squid run but did witness a few small gatherings. I saw this lonely squid on a night dive, slowly cruising along the canyon wall. The squid was an elegant creature. It maneuvers back and forth without the need of turning. It holds its position in a strong surge seemingly effortless. As I came close, it first swam further away but then slowly came back to my light. It turned sideways, looking at me directly with its big watery eyes, full of curiosity. Slowly it glided down the canyon to the deep, probably where it came from, and disappeared in the darkness. The next day in the morning, I found a bundle of the egg sacks on the sandy slope, the beginning of a new cycle of life.

I also saw a tuna crab, although it was a dead one.

Another cool encounter was a little crab.

It looked very unique. Very cool creature (possibly Retiring Southerner – Pilumnus spinohirsutus). I spent the last part of my dive shooting this cool crab.

The south wall really changed a lot. After the restucturing, a lot of cliffs were now exposed. The area looked really cool with a lot of structures. Down a trench there were lot of kelp washed from the shallow and I spotted this giant kelpfish.

Very cool dive!
