Had a very productive Sunday and decided to have a night dive at the shores. I got there around 6 pm. The wave had picked up a bit and once in a while a huge set came in. Quite a few divers just came out of the water and the condition was reported to be decent. So I geared up and headed to the Vallecitos Point.

There was a strong north current in the very shallow close to the beach but once I passed the surf zone, it was calm. I dropped off at the middle slop. The visibility was superb! At the canyon wall, I spotted a brown sea hare. It was crawling on the wall and obviously had difficulties to hold on to the rock even though the surge was pretty mild. Finally it fell to the sandy ground.

Saw a lot of critters on my way to the point. A sea lemon was busy laying eggs and lots of shrimps. Then I came across this octopus, not on the ground but swimming toward me. I always wanted to have a picture of an octopus with pitch black background. This time I was close.

Down the slope, a huge ship crab was crawling toward the canyon wall.

At the point, I saw the wolf eel again. A little bit to the north, the Stearn’s Aeolid family was all out and about. One of them was hanging out on the kelp. I spent quite sometime with this guy.

Then it’s time to head back. While I was passing through the sand dollar field, I spotted a black dorid. I only saw them on the crap patch, which was way north to the point. It was exciting to see them at the point. But I air was low and I could not spend too much time for pictures. Hope I could see them again soon.
