At the Shores with Mike

I joined Mike this morning and dove La Jolla Shores. We stayed in the shallow for the whole dive. The visibility in the shallow was fantastic 20-30 ft and warm 62 F. The highlight was at the end of the dive. When a dolphin in the far caught Mike’s attention, I thought it was a common one, which was just passing by. But soon a pod showed up, chasing a bait ball. In a little while, two followed by three jumped out of the water up in the air. Then they moved to the shore, closer to the beach than the surfers were. As Mike and I were watching, the dorsal fins popped out of the water right behind Mike and swam fast toward me. I just heard the yelling from Mike “get down!”. I went back to the water and one big dolphin swim by super fast within arm’s reach. We were super excited. In just a minute, they turned back and swam by us again. This time they were under us on the bottom. My camera was out of battery but was able to capture a few frames (not even a second) as one swam by. It was a thrilling encounter
