Cabo Pulmo Adventure Day 5

October is the high season of diving Cabo Pulmo and we were scheduled for the afternoon dives. But the diver center decided to rent a boat to accommodate divers who otherwise would not be able to dive in the morning. We were lucky to join a trip in the morning and the first dive we headed to El Islote, a pinnacle on the south side of the park.

The diving was pretty easy. The site is featured with lots of big boulders and I believe all the fish just hide themselves behind when they see the divers. So the life looks not as abundant as the other reefs. There are quite a lot of hard corals and red gorgonians on the rock.

But then the miracle happened. On the south of the pinnacle, millions of tiny fish (sardines, I learned later) showed up, riding the waves and playing in the shallow water. The wave, the fish, and the rock together blurred the boundary of land and sea.

I was so excited to ride the waves with the fish. I wish I could stay longer.

For the second dive, we headed north for the jack tornado again. This time, I dropped down right next to the fish. I kicked slowly, watching tentatively and letting the fish take the course.

When nature presents her grand majesty, time stops and space disappear. I enter a different world. The humming sound in the water becomes musical and the swirling of the fish is cinematic. I am glad to have another treat from nature.

In the afternoon, we headed out El Cantil and Los Morros, two reef sites. El Cantil was muddy, reminding me the canyons of La Jolla. In contrast, Los Morros is more sandy with lots of rocky structure. We had magnificent visibility and saw lots of fish. Bravo!
