Deep South Wall at the Shores

Seeing the swell coming and surf growing, I headed for another dive before the condition went bad. Guessing the shallow was clear, I decided to check out the south wall. The rain started when I kicked out from the marine room and the surface was choppy. Lots of kayakers and paddlers. I dropped down on the sandy flat and the water was clear and beautiful. The visibility was 25-30 ft and warm in the mid 60s. The canyon down the slope was mostly nice with a visibility of ~20 ft and a few murky pockets. It was warm 59F and the thermocline didn’t appear until at about 70 ft.

I was surprised to see the tube worms spawning when it was not even dark yet. Lots of critters, sheep crabs, horn sharks, yellow crabs, and sarcastic fringehead. In an area all the sand bass were resting and sargo were feeding. On my way back, a school of jack came by, twice. The sand dollar field in the area was not big but all the sand dollars were packed tight. Lots of sea pens and sand stars. A nice dive. It’s going to be a few days before another dive.
