La Jolla Shores – V Point

The waves at the shores finally calmed down and the extraordinary visibility has been reported in the last a few days. I buddied up with Trevis and headed out to Vellocitos Point. Indeed, the visibility was superb! I have been complaining that the canyon looked so quiet during the day, however at night it was a different story. Once we got to the canyon, we were greeted by quite a few sheep crab and octopus. A few minutes into our dive, we spotted an adult horn shark gouging ferociously along the canyon. He basically ignored our presence and nearly buried his whole head into the kelp. We stopped and watched the tremendous process. After the shark finished, he swam around us for a few circles and landed again on the canyon. We decided to leave the shark and furthered out south. Along the way, a few little kelp crab caught my eyes – not only they looked funny in their camouflage, but their trying to catch krills was quite entertaining.  So I slowed down and took a video of it.

After we arrived at the v-point, we circled the plateau but did not find either the angel shark or the giant halibut. Then we descended to the ledge and hanged around there with other creatures. Shrimps, fish, crabs, eels and octopus were all out. The whole canyon wall looked like a big party.
