Morning Dives at the Shores

I joined Mike and made two dives today at the shores – first at the north wall and then at the south wall. The water at the surface was milky but it opened up to amazing visibility at the depth below 65 ft. In the first dive, we came across huge sheepsheads and the patches covered with many bubble snails. Then we saw two Diomedes’ Aglajid – the first sighting for us. Take a close look at this guy crawling and how the mucin layer slowly peeling off from its body.

After seeing two species of nudibranchs new to me in one dive, I had a low expectation for the second dive. But the shores showed its magic again. We found a quite a few California Armina in the grassy area and got some really good pictures.

At the south wall, hundreds of brown sea hares – adults followed by babies – were marching from the grassy field at about 45 ft to the shallower sands. Their bodies were stretched and they were all heading to the same direction.

Despite so many dives at the shores, the wildness was still surreal to me and both dives brought my tears out. What a remarkable piece of ocean we have!
