New Year’s Dive at the Shores

At the beginning of the new year, the storm passed. What a beautiful day at the shores. I went to the shores with Yuhua. She went to kayak. I came across Jackie in the park and we together headed out to the canyon. After a few kicks, we looked down and awed the beautiful water. It was so clear that I had to take some pictures of the canyon under ambient light.

We descended to the deep along the main draw. It was quite. On our way back, Jackie spotted a guitar fish lying on the slop. She got down and took a video.

We head to the north. Right before the V point, I spotted the Stearn’s aeolid again. It never moves away from that area.

The highlight of the dive was a juvenile pipefish hanging around the kelp. It blended well with the kelp blades.

I stayed in the water column near the kelp and took pictures of the pipefish.

There were so many sand dollars around the north end of the canyon. They piled on the ocean floor and filled the gaps between the tube bushes. From far, they looked like water falls going down the canyon.

Then Jackie and I got to the Crap patch. We spent sometime looking for the seahorse, but without any success. I bet the seahorse had gone.

Then I turned. Since I still had some air, I decided to follow the canyon before heading back to the shores. Then there was a huge pipe fish, a size I had never seen before.

The size of this fish was amazing. I followed it along the canyon wall.

What a beautiful dive. It was nice to spend the first day of the new year in beautiful shores!
