Night Dive at the Shores

For the first time in a while, I brought a macro lens to the canyon and cruised the wall super slow. The dive turned out quite interesting.

The most interesting encounter was an Anteaeolidiella oliviae.

I only saw this species once before throughout all the dives. That was more than a year ago. In that encounter, I only had chance to get one crappy picture before the nudibranch crawled into a tiny hole. So I was quite excited to see one again.

Another interesting sighting was a snake eel on the shallow sandy bottom. Once in a while I saw this kind of eel but they were always super shy. Any movement toward them will make them retreat fast and deep into the hole.

But the one I saw today was different. It retreated when I first attempted to take a picture, but then it came back and stuck out its head. The eel let me get pretty close and did not shy away from the camera. I was quite happy.

Another interesting observation was the cardinal fish.

I was quite amazed by their big size, thinking how small they were when they first arrived about two years ago.

Back to the shallow, the water was surgy with a lot of sediment on the bottom. Saw a large diamond ray at about 15 ft water. At about 10 ft, there came a strong rip current and I had to stick myself onto the bottom not to be washed away. It passed in a few minutes.
