Headed out to Point Loma with Steve today and had two amazing dives. Due to recent weather changes, I have kept expectations low; however, the nudibranch sightings today just blew my mind away. The highlight was a few Thordisa bimaculata, which I saw only from my pictures last time.

I found a small cluster of them in the second dive. I never expected to see them but it seemed like they were hanging around tight.
Even for San Diego Dorid, I haven’t seen a cluster for a long time. So it was cool.

They are all around.
One really cool encounter was Doris montereyensis (Monterey Dorid). They are around but I never paid much attention to the taxonomy.

Notice all the tiny critters on the dorid. Here are a few shots.
Another nudibranch I learned is the Doriopsilla gemela, which I have been mixing with other yellow dorids.

Another highlight is Cadlina luteomarginata. It’s super shy nudibranch. It took me quite a while to get picture with all the gills out.
I also saw quite a few of Aegires albopunctatus
And also a few Mexichromis porterae
What a great trip! Below I copied Steve’s report.
Weiwei G and I headed out looking for the decent conditions I had yesterday and found decent enough vis and interesting critters.
We went to Gayles spot (Because her spot on the boat was empty 😉 and found some surface currents .
They turned into stronger currents at depth and no matter which was went, I seemed to be kicking into them .
Vis today was 30 ft until you got 20 ft deep, then it dropped to 10 ft until you were down to 50 ft, when it cleaned up to 15-20 on the top of the walls.
Dropping down the walls the vis improved to 25-30, but the currents were the problem, especially on dive #1 Weiwei spotted a toupe shark on dive #1 and then a relatively rare nudi (Thordisa bimaculata on dive #2
Dive #2 was less currents , slightly less vis and cooler water at 54º on the bottom.
Good day on and under the H2o with a great friend .
