Headed out with Steve and Peter to Point Loma. On our way out, the sea was super flat and the sky was cloudy. Steve picked Main Channel and the Christmas Reef. From the surface the water was so clear we could the anchor dropping to the deep. Underwater the visibility dropped a bit but still the condition was great.

In the first dive, I spotted an Eurylepta californica, a kind of flatworm, out and crawling. So I spent sometime filming. But the highlight was a black dorid. This kind of nudibranch was my favorite and this was the first time I saw a black dorid at Point Loma.

Had quite a lot of fun taking pictures of this guy.
The second dive was spent at the Christmas Reef. Compared to last time we visited here, the colors of the sea anemones were not as bright. But the protrusions of the pinnacles still made this site perfect for wide angle shots. I was able to put kelp behind a few sea star close-ups. I loved the shots.
Steve pointed to me a few Porter’s Chromodorids. They were in pairs. Then I found quite a few.
On the way back to the surface, I enjoyed the beautiful blue water at the shallow. Schools of fish were hanging around the kelp and the view was plan beautiful.
Here are more pictures. As you can see the condition was superb!
Here is Steve’s report.
Peter K and Weiwei G joined me for a couple nice dives off Point Loma today.
We headed over to the Main Channel and when we dropped anchor we could see it almost to the bottom !
We dropped down into 50-60 ft vertical and 30-40 horizontal viz.
I could see the 75 ft bottom as I got to 20ish ft !
Peter and I did the “tour dive, and checked out all the amazing structure of this site.
There were hundreds of fish up in the clear blue water as we ascended , and we spent time just hanging out in the kelp watching the show.
For dive #2 we headed over to Christmas reef and while conditions weren’t as good, they were still 20-30 ft vis.
The temp dropped there also and I saw 50º on my watch .
Lots of life out today, and on the way back we were treated with a porpoise(?) (the big grey ones) show.
They were jumping and slapping tails , and hanging out just off the O.B. pier .
the winds picked up after noon and it was a little bumpy for the ride back.
All in All a great day with cool people
