I joined Steve and Allahna for a trip to Point Loma. Frankly, as the recent swell forecast, I wasn’t sure whether the condition would be good. But ocean is unpredictable. All I can do is to be present.
The day started very warm and humid, the sky overcast, and the sea flat and smooth. The first dive was at Gayle’s spot. I dropped down first. The condition was poor: extremely surgy and the water was super snotty. But surprisingly the reefs looked just as beautiful as they could be.
The sea anemones blossomed with exuberant colors and the nudibranchs were just about everywhere. The condition didn’t affect my enjoyment with the beautiful reefs.
The most exciting encounter in this dive was a large Hilton nudibranch. I have heard a lot about it and this was my first encounter.
During the surface interval, we noticed the tide change and the water transformed from murky dark into a hue of clear blue. We went to south of the Camel Head for the second dive. Indeed, when I dropped down , everything changed. Now the water was calm, bright, clear, and very warm. It was a kind of pleasant feeling quiet rarely found in diving cold water.
Obviously there were a lot of Porter’s Chromodorid. I saw singlets, pairs, threesomes, and even foursomes with another three colored polycera at the corner. Marvelous!

Weiwei joined Allahna D and I for a smooth ride out to Gayles spot this morning.
The vis was only 10-15 (heavy on the 10 ft) and there was a slight current .
One cool find was a Hiltoni’s nudi
For dive #2 we headed 500 ft south to South Camel Head and had a much improved dive with 20-25 ft vis below and 30 + up in the kelp .
The swells were 2-4 with mostly 2’s . it was a lot calmer on the way back.
