Over the past weekend, I boarded Bill and Remi’s boat Makani and joined them for a sailing/diving trip to the southern boarder. Since the destination was not far, we didn’t leave the dock until the dawn on Saturday. The weather was nice and the ocean was calm.

After the second dive, we decided to move to the north island. During the trip, the compressor decided to stop working. Despite Bill and Remi’s effort, it was not revived. Bill and Remi did another dive and I opted out for some drone shots. As the sun slowly going down, we moved to the moonlight bay in between the two islands and decided to anchor the boat for the night. Now we all had one tank left. In the second day, we headed back to Point Loma. The marine layer in the morning was thick, blocking the city skyline and the Point Loma. We did our last dive at the Train Wheel. The visibility was about 20 ft with mild to strong surge. I enjoyed the beautiful reef, kelp, and lots of fish. By this time, the sun had come out and the bay was busy with many sailboats. It was a beautiful day.

The dive sites we went were close to home and familiar to us. I enjoyed the great conditions in all the dives. In the darkness, the sea lions were barking loud. The sound was mixed with those from the seagulls, the waves, and the wind. I slept outside of the cabin in the open, enjoyed listening to the sounds and watching all the stars and the milky way. It was mesmerizing to immerse completely in such wildness.
