I joined Power Scuba for a two-day trip to San Clemente Island. The trip is very exciting for multiple reasons. First, I have not taken any boat dive for a while so I felt a refreshed sense of adventure. Second, this is my first visit to San Clemente Island. I have been looking for a perfect opportunity and finally this is it. Third, this is my first time to have overnight trip on board Horizon so I finally to get to enjoy this great boat.
We boarded the boat at night and left the dock at around 10 pm. When I woke up, I found that we already anchored right next to the San Clemente Island. The weather was gorgeous. Before we started diving, the navy approached our boat. There would be a navy training in the area so we moored to the corner of the island.

Along the side of the island we made five dives including one night dive. I will not elaborate each dive because I found them all very similar. I was told that due to the unusually warm weather much kelp around the island had died off. Along the cliff, I did not find much small critters. But the scenery at each site was beautiful: blue water, great visibility, interesting wall structure, and a lot of fish.

As the navy would continue their training into the second day, we would not be able to keep out initial plan of spending the second day diving the island. The captain decided to head north to dive the back side of the Catalina Island. I was excited because again it would be my first time to dive that location.
When I woke up in the morning, the boat was already anchored at Farnesworth Bank. The surface was flat and the water was clear. I was excited and the first to jump into the water. I could see the reef even from the surface. As soon as I dropped down, I was stunned by how beautiful it was. The purple hydrocoral was piled up and covered the whole area. From the very top of the plateau all the way to the deep canyon it was everywhere. The visibility was easily 100 ft. It was beautiful.

I was so ahead of everyone and had the whole canyon for myself throughout the whole dive. People still headed out to the water from the boat when I got back on board.
I jumped into the water again as soon as I finished my surface interval. This time the visibility dropped a bit and I felt a strong current. But the reef was just as beautiful.
We left the island around noon time. It was about a 6-hour ride back home to San Diego. It was a memorable trip.
