Shark and the Wreck

Headed out to Yukon and then the cove. It was such a gorgeous day to be out on the sea. The sun was bright and and the sky blue. The clouds looked so low on the top of the cliff as if one could reach. The ocean was flat like a lake with lots of birds, kelp, and playful sea lion pups.

At Yukon, the visibility was about 20 ft and the water was murky. But it’s super quiet. We anchored on the middle buoy. I saw the new flags as soon as I dropped down to the wreck. Turned left to check out and the stern and then headed up the current to the bow. Lots of sand bass and blacksmith.

After the wreck we headed to the cove, hoping to see the seven-gills. There were lots of seagulls and cormorants on the surface. I dropped down to the sandy bottom north of the reef and headed south toward the cove. The water was very murky as usual but it was super quiet without much surge. Saw the first seven-gill about 20 min into the dive. It was high above. Then the second one after I turned back toward the boat. It may be the same shark but this time it was low near the bottom. It blended with the bottom so well that I could barely see it. After seeing quite some seven-gills, I could still feel my heart in my throat when they emerged from the water column.

A great trip!
