Shores A Night Dive

As the dive conditions remained superb, I headed out for a night dive at the shores. Absolutely beautiful, both topside and underwater. Beautiful sky, lovely moonlight, and lake-like surface. The water was gorgeous – fantastic visibility and no surge.

I followed the routine route, starting from the main wall and heading north to the point. There was a lot of grass growth near the main wall area, which reminded me the old crap patch. Here I spent some time with this Janolus.

In the same area, I spotted this Hermissenda opalescens (name recently changed from Hermissenda crassicornis).

What a beauty.

A little bit north, still in the grassy area, I spotted this Dendronotus venustus (name recently changed from Dendronotus frondosus) and spent time taking some pictures. With a lot of protrusions, this is one nudibrach that is hard for good photographs.

A very cool nudi.

But I wanted to take a look at the ‘nudi kelp’. The nudi kelp is down – it looks like the tip was ripped off and the whole stem is now lying on the point. This would happen sooner or later. Now all the life is breaking free and scattered for a new cycle. On the remaining kelp stem, I found a few Corambe pacifica.

Despite the small size and superb camouflage, this little nudibranch is definitely not short of a delicate pattern and structure.

A great dive.
