This is what I wrote for this dive.
La Jolla Shores 11-2-2016
Just to second Diver Jackie and Bob’s report. What an amazing dive at the shores. Despite the surge and haze, the canyon was full of life, which I missed so much for so long. There were quite a lot of nudibranchs coming out and finally some kelp took a hold onto the wall and reached high. The baby skate was a cool encounter, my first sighting. Everyone saw something different tonight, and it looks like life is coming back. Yeah!
Here is Jackie’s report.
La Jolla Shores
Time: night
Temp: forgot to look – cold felt like 54
Viz: scarce 8’ – 12’ dirty smog in canyon – better in shallows

Surf: 2’ – 3’ a bit of punchVery low tide made for a long walk, then Weiwei and I pushed our way through some surf with a slight south current. And did that twice… It’s amazing how quickly, and the volume of water that finds its way in through a not properly zipped zipper…I won’t name names…but their initials start with W.
Viz made itself scarce tonight. Quite dirty thick smog, made worse by the foraging ginormous Harbor Seal, and Sea Lion. Detritus still clumped along the wall and in patches in the canyon, which is dotted with some Tuna Crabs.
Highlight critter was a baby Skate (I’m pretty sure), with beautiful markings. Sadly there were some parasites attached to its head. Also, a brief sighting of a Mantis Shrimp foraging, then disappearing into a hole.
The Blacksmiths in the Cardinalfish den are huge. A Janolus was creeping along in the detritus, hope it evades all the Navanax that are still out, Sea Hares and a few Pipefish also out.
The shallows interestingly had OK viz for a minute, then the surge from the surf kicked in. A great dive.
