The Secret Garden is one of the most famous sites at La Jolla Shores. As the site only occupies a small area, the line-up is tricky. It is also relatively deep. With the two dive veterans, locating the site even during the night was a piece of cake. We dropped down to 110 ft water right at the spot. I immediately realized why it was called a garden. It was a patch of tubes on a sandy slop with a lot of gorgonians – a different scene compared to other sites near the shores.

Although the patches looked different, the fish looked the same. We cruised around the patch but I didn’t see any critters special. We decided to follow the slop and go east. When we got to the sandy bottom, we spotted a baby sea bass, like the one I saw a few weeks ago. The slope became more and more grassy, where I spotted quite a few Hermissenda crassicornis. The krill followed my light – there were lot of them, which made the water like soup. When we got even shallower, we came across an adult horn shark. Gayle was able to take a few shots of the shark and I thought it was fun to shoot a video.
